btw - i called the IRS as i did not like having to sell any of my portfolio at a gain in order to claim the capital loss offset for NSMG. their publications, as usual, left ones head spinning to interpret. the answer from the irs was that you can claim a capital loss even without having a capital gain to report. that may be good news for others as well who may be considering using capital losses to offset income tax. at least a bit of good news ! (sort of). again, GLTA who hold on.
