Seeing Dauphin Island brings back a story. We used to rent a home out on the sand flat every year to book our charter fishing trip. There was a boat launch into the canal on the property.
Dauphin Island sits at the mouth of Mobile Bay, and is one of the best natural oyster flats in the world. We always went to the local restaurants and got Oysters on the halfshell, because we knew they were fresh, and we would pay high prices for them.
One day, while loading my boat, I remarked to my friends, that we ought to just harvest some of the hundreds of oysters that were attached to the boat ramp and the pilings, and quit paying the big bucks... We got a rake and some screwdrivers, and in about 30 minutes, had one of the biggest oyster eating feasts you probably would never want to see, lol.
No one got sick, but no one wanted to go out for seafood that night either...
Oh well, just a memory....
