When I saw your post, my first question was is this significant? It's always easy for the media to try and show the dark side. After a little checking, it appears the overall average suicide rate is 11+ per 100,000 people (20 for males per 100K). And for the ages 20-44 (covering most military members) its more like 13 per 100K (male and female). So it does seem a little higher than the national average for male and female combined but closer to average if we're looking more at males only. Its kind of like H1N1 when they say that its killed hundreds of people so far. Well the average flu kills 100 people a day! So is there really a significant increase in the suicide rate of military people over the U.S. public at large?
