LOL on the Gagne part.
Yeah theres a guy I know in town here that was in the Astros system about 10 years ago.
Was like unhittable in High School and Div3 college ball because of # 1 his fastball and # 2 he was a lefty.
When he was drafted and started working with pro pitching coaches all they wanted to do was teach him how to throw junk.
He ended up blowing out his elbow like you said and it was career over.
They did not take care of him at all $$$ wise even though he was a draft choice none of his contract was guaranteed.
And you`re also right about the old days pitching style VS today.
I was a decent pitcher myself in HS and was scouted.
Back then all you were taught was using your legs and pushing off the rubber and what was called throwing downhill,meaning coming right over the top.
None of this side arm or 3/4 crap that screws your elbow.
Old days was more the day of power pitchers ,with a good change-up,mix in a big slow curve now and then.
Plus old days pitchers weren`t pussies and pitched inside.
Remember Drysdale and Gibson.
Hell if they pitched today someone would be charging the mound every inning LOL
