Question: If international shell companies were used by hedge funds illegally naked short selling counterfeit shares, could these shell companies and related hedge funds just fold, close shop or go bankrupt essentially refusing to cover their short positions?

If criminals were looking at losing millions/billions and facing jail time, couldn't they go the next criminal step and just skip town? I know that anything is possible at this point and this is pure speculation, but as a long term investor, this scenario has me most worried.

For the record, I do believe in SPNG's fundamentals and I've placed my bet with mgmt.
