There is a language barrier, a cultural divide and a great distance between the West and China. I am sure my facile assumptions about business practices in China are flat wrong in many instances.
The coal mine consolidation in Shanxi province and the report on the shenanigans going on behind the scene were a good example. Corruption as a way of life, connections as a trump card and old communist cadres rigging the system behind a thin veil or pretext of safety concerns in order to enhance their power and line their personal pockets . . .
But I guess we have seen a similar movie recently on Wall Street and in Washington's corridors of power. And elsewhere, too.
As to illegal competition to GFRE? Illegal is whatever your provincial buddies in charge designate as such. Still a long way to the rule of law would be my guess.
