FINRA requires 50% or 2.50 per share, which ever is MORE in margin for short sales stocks. Interactive brokers has borrows for a good chunk of stocks and allows shorting at any price (most brokers do not allow under ~3.00 it seems). The 2.50 thing makes it pretty much worthless for a .10 or .01 stock though.
