That is what I call "taking out the stops". Big sellers see hugh stop orders at a discount just sitting below market and think, "hmmm what if I sell a hugh series of orders "down"(short) this morning, doing that I can drive the price down and can take out all those "stop loss" orders which will enable me to buy my shares back at a nice little discount. Sorry, mama said, mama said, there will be days like this.
