Why would an oil company buy a rig if they didn't have a long term drilling program? To even think about owning a rig you would expect a field development involving proven reserves not a couple wildcats. Buying a rig would be gross ill founded enthusiam. Basically leave drilling to drilling subcontractors. A small start up oil company owning a rig? Some bad advice given there. I'd hope the purchase involved somebody getting a kickback and not incompetence.
