neomfriend: NeoMedia's '048 sends an index to the resolution server. The resolution server returns the URL to the phone. They have other patents which do things like decode the URL from the barcode, send it to the resolution server, which then swaps it for a new URL (indirect direct). However, they butter their bread with '048.

Scanbuy's patent sends an index to the resolution server. The resolution server returns the code for the content (i.e. a coupon). They also have lots of variations on the indirect them, but this one is their butter.
