I believe they work because enough people think they work. There are those that pay no attention to the ema lines and only look at sma, so when the sma get near the price you can watch those lines take over temporarily. Then they lose strength and the ema take back over. It is fascinating stuff. I number my ema using the fibonacci sequenced numbers (except I sometimes use 7 instead of 8 for some damn reason,) and it is amazing how the price is attracted/repelled with these lines.
