Makes sense to me, nobody who "OWNED" shares, would sell at the market and bring the price down.

They might sell 5 million at the market, then when it came back sell another 5 and so on. There was 100 million shares dumped.

Now if you had sold 50 or 100 OR MORE OR LESS millions of shares short, in the 50's to 70's you NEED TO BRING THE PRICE DOWN to cover your position. So simply sell another 100 million or so "at the market", and then you can cover your naked short position.
