Major Ecosystem Entities - Besides the entities listed below, you else should we be familiar with, and what role with they specifically place in the ecosystem?

At this very moment, where are they with the creation of the ecosystem?

Can we differentiate a US ecosystem and World ecosystem, or will it come out as one in the same?

NEOMEDIA TECHNOLOGIES - Barcode creation and Barcode Reading Technology, Patents, etc...

CTIA - The Wireless Association, originally known as the Cellular Telephone Industries Association, is an international industry trade group representing all wireless communication sectors including cellular, personal communication services and enhanced specialized mobile radio.[3] Founded in 1984, they are primarily involved in lobbying the US government and were instrumental in the passage of both the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Telecommunications Disclosure & Dispute Resolution Act.

CTIA primarily represents the interests of wireless telecommunications companies. Their board is a mix of service providers, manufacturers and wireless data companies, as well as other contributors to the wireless industry.

NEUSTAR, Inc. is a provider of clearinghouse and directory services that enable communication across networks, applications, and enterprises around the world. The company provides competing communications service providers (CSPs) and enterprises with equal access to shared resources. In addition, Neustar facilitates advanced services and helps to route voice, advanced data applications and IP-based communications.

Neustar was founded to meet the technical and operational challenges of the communications industry when the U.S. government mandated local number portability in 1996. While the company remains the provider of the solution that the communications industry relies upon to meet this mandate, it also has developed a range of services related to addressing, interoperability and infrastructure (see below) that meet an array of customer needs.

ICANN is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Headquartered in Marina Del Rey, California, United States, ICANN is a non-profit corporation that was created to oversee a number of Internet-related tasks previously performed directly on behalf of the U.S. government by other organizations, notably the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

ICANN's tasks include responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD) top-level domain name system management, and root server system management functions. More generically, ICANN is responsible for managing the assignment of domain names and IP addresses. To date, much of its work has concerned the introduction of new generic top-level domains (TLDs).

ICANN's primary principles of operation have been described as helping preserve the operational stability of the Internet; to promote competition; to achieve broad representation of global Internet community; and to develop policies appropriate to its mission through bottom-up, consensus-based processes.
On September 29, 2006, ICANN signed a new agreement with the United States Department of Commerce (DOC) that moves the private organization towards full management of the Internet's system of centrally coordinated identifiers through the multi-stakeholder model of consultation that ICANN represents.

GSM ASSOCIATION (GSMA) is an association of mobile operators and related companies devoted to supporting the standardizing, deployment and promotion the GSM mobile telephone system. It claims as members nearly 800 mobile operators and more than 200 related companies. Telecoms.com called it "one of the most powerful trade associations in the world, lobbying governments on everything from tax policy to pricing strategy".

OPEN MOBILE ALLIANCE (OMA) is a standards body which develops open standards for the mobile phone industry.
The OMA was created in June 2002 as an answer to the proliferation of industry forums each dealing with a few application protocols: the WAP Forum (focused on browsing and device provisioning protocols), the Wireless Village (focused on instant messaging and presence), the The SyncML Initiative (focused on data synchronization), the Location Interoperability Forum, the Mobile Games Interoperability Forum and the Mobile Wireless Internet Forum. Each of these forums had its bylaws, its decision-taking procedures, its release schedules, and in some instances there was some overlap in the specifications, causing duplication of work. The OMA was created to gather these initiatives under a single umbrella.
Members include traditional wireless industry players such as equipment and mobile systems manufacturers (Ericsson, Thomson, Siemens, Reti Radiotelevisive Digitali, Nokia, Openwave, Sony Ericsson, Philips, Motorola, Samsung, Texas Instruments) and mobile operators (Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile), but also software vendors (Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, IBM, Oracle Corporation, Symbian, Celltick, Expway, Mformation, InnoPath, Motive, Discretix).

GS1 is an international not-for-profit association dedicated to the development and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains globally and across multiple sectors. The GS1 System of standards is the most widely-used supply-chain standards system in the world.

GS1's main activity is the development of the GS1 System, a series of standards designed to improve supply-chain management. The GS1 System is composed of four key standards: Barcodes (used to automatically identify things), eCom (electronic business messaging standards allowing automatic electronic transmission of data), GDSN (Global Data Synchronisation standards which allow business partners to have consistent item data in their systems at the same time) and EPCglobal (which uses RFID technology to immediately track an item).
