Boston Scientific is the sales leader in cardiac stents, which have grown into a $4 billion market. But J&J controls the original patent on the devices, via rights it acquired from the radiologist Julio Palmaz, who is generally credited with the invention.
In 2000, J&J, based in New Brunswick, N.J., won a verdict that an early Boston Scientific stent, called the NIR, infringed Dr. Palmaz's patent.
Maybe this is why we had this run in the stock. Folks knowing that Palmaz will be rolled into CWDW and they will be getting a nice peice of this settlement....Hmmmm?
