Drs used to be the most hard core "profession" and attract the best and brightest - Drs used to have to memorize everything to diagnose in a minute - now there's programs that can take the symptoms and for 95% (I am making up a number) ot ailments they can take the list of symptoms and tell you whats wrong and the treatment. So most primary care physicians are now relegated to gate keepers of the HMOs and prescriber of pills. Medical science has become bloated and inneficient in nearly all areas where it's paid for by the insurance company. Its funny in areas where there's little subsidy/insurance coverage the comeptition is fierce and prices have come down and efficiency gone up, as there's an incentive to cut the costs and make the procedures more affordable (laser eye surgery, cosmetics surgery etc)
