Average person graduating from medical school now is a lot less capable then they were 50 years ago. Doctors now aren't the superstar brainiacs that they used to be (on average)

Being a doctor isn't nearly as prestigious as it used to be - before it was a sign of intelligence - now its more of a sign of tenaciousness - it's a pain in the ass to jump through all the hoops but it's not attracting the best and brightest any more.
