.... I love my motor vehicles department ... sorry yours doesn't match up ... . here are few other things I am happy with my government for ....

Clean Water - The Clean Water act was passed in 1972, only one-third of the nation’s waterways were safe enough for fishing or swimming. Today that has doubled to two-thirds.

And only 85 million Americans were served by sewage treatment plants in 1972, that figure has now risen to 170 million.

also The Military. The military is a great government success story ....

our National Weather Service - thank goodness for the success of this one ... it tells us when NOT to fly planes, it warns us of hurricanes and tornados ... it's a miracle .. predicting hurricanes .. wow .... job well done government !!! its forecasts of weather 72 hours in advance

the FDA ... it plays an important role in helping to protect us from tainted food, rules safe levels of pesticides so that they are not dangerous to us .. they keep an eye on new drugs & try to ensure that they are safe for us & if not - they take them off the market or force new labeling ...I read that the FDA identifies almost 3,000 products that are unfit for consumption and ensures their withdrawal from our marketplace.

This is extremely important & thank God our government does this for all of us .. ! Funding Basic Science Research

Federal funds pay for 80% of the basic science research in this country, through laboratory facilities in universities and in government agencies such as the National Institutes for Health. For this reason, the government deserves a great deal of credit for the important scientific and technological breakthroughs produced by these efforts.

In just one area – biomedical science – basic research has provided the foundation to develop new diagnostic technologies, such as nuclear magnetic resonance machines, and new treatments for cancer, diabetes, and many other diseases. It is revealing that nearly half of the most important medical treatments in the field of cardiovascular-pulmonary medicine have their origins in basic research attempting to unravel the mysteries of the lungs, heart, and muscles – work done by scientists not working in this specific disease area.....

Another thing for those of us living in the West .. must remember ... our government began creating federal programs in the 19th century to get people to go west ... government sponsored explorations to the west .... it continued with providing money & troops for killing all the Indians ... It also sold public land at very very cheap prices to the settlers .. . the railroads were given massive subsidies, so much so that it was common knowledge that not one railroad would have ever been built without the government paying it's ticket .

Also .. even today ...quite a bit of the farming in the western states is still made possible by 'federal water projects' .. .amazing, isn't it ? oh yeah .. and low grazing fees on the 'feds property' .. helps too.

The mining industry was and is given 'cheap access to federal land' ....if that were not the case they would never be profitable ..

.....plus our government is responsible for some dams and canal projects which provide water to some people, at least to the western states ...I'm not sure of their water projects in other states .....

I think a lot of us forget about these things that our government does a really bang up job of .... I know I do .... and truly it is only all the 'anti government ' talk on ihub that got me to thinking about what I thought worked good & then doing some research on the subject .....there are other projects our government does for us successfully , however .... the above are a few on the top of my list .. ;))
