The market makers may be playing a spirited little internal game of "I dare you" amongst themselves as they jockey the B&A's around for position in the minutes before the opening bell each day.

MM's apparently do even occasionally trade amongst themselves before the opening bell. You can tell this is going on because volume sometime starts to build in advance of 9:30 EST (as I've observed with some other stocks).

In QBID/GAAY's case, it's as if the MM's are all expecting a gap-up at the open on one of these mornings, they just don't know exactly which one it'll be.

So they play this little game of moving the B&A around to see if anyone knows anything and will take the bait in the minutes before the bell.
