Ummmmmm.....market makers almost always represent actual retail buyers and sellers these days, not literally "market makers trying to make money on the transactions"

At this this is the way with VBDG. I can put buy and sell orders at any price and a market maker shows up on level 2 and represents ME. So, yeah, one seller or one buyer has influence -- in fact, sometimes full control. When you see PERT batter up it's some dude who is buying huge. PERT is merely the market maker representing him.
