Semi, I don't understand why you are taking any measure of comfort, however slim, in the malaise of other tech companies. There are two problems:
1) It's worse news for INTC if its depressed stock price is due to a general tech slowdown instead of its own execution problems or product portfolio. At least in the latter case, the problems are all under Intel's control.


*** Who says I'm taking any measure of comfort? Baby, lemmie tell ya, I'm not comfortable with losses at all, but that doesn't mean that I stick my head in the sand and ignore the obvious either. I just don't think it is a good idea to ignore indicators, just because it may be worse for some companies, rather then others, or because some people just don't like what the indicators are showing.


2) For AMD, the difference between missing and beating expectations is very small. Plus most everyone in Wall Street is expecting AMD to miss, so if they do, that's not a big deal (barring any possibility of bankruptcy, which I don't think is likely).


*** I think that Wall Street will have an issue with Hector saying things are fine, if they're not. It's the credability factor. On the other hand, if it is being suggested that Wall Street is "Expecting AMD to miss", at the same time while Hector is saying everything is fine, then that doesn't say much for Hector's credability already, now does it. That seems like a negative to me.


Personally, I don't expect AMD to miss this quarter, given how Intel is practically holding the door wide open for AMD in major market segments. And if that's the case, I'd hate to see the "geniuses" like fictionnotfacs returning.

*** Then feel free to join that group of people that believes everything is fine at AMD, while "Lowered Guidance" seems to be the message everywhere else in the industry. We'll see who's right soon enough. And as far as FNF coming back with those types of postings, finally something we agree on. I don't believe those same kinds of posts will happen again. You did notice that I'm "modding" the board now, right?
