My wife is a manager at a CVS here in Upstate New York. The reason you are seeing "liquidation" or the Car Wash Sponge is because it is considered a Seasonal Item in most northern states. They need all the shelf space they can get for Back to School, Halloween, Thankgiving and Christmas items soon to be available. Granted, according to her, the sales weren't stellar but they were steady. I would not read too much into the removal from shelves at this time of year. Hopefully they will be replaced with the SpongeBob Sponge and then reappear next spring.
