Whom Do You Believe?

Listen to Rush…
(…explain why the whole CBS scandal is real simple to understand)

Bill Burkett, in the Fort Worth Star Telegram today, says that Joe Lockhart tried to convince him as to why he should give the DNC and the Kerry campaign the documents. Bill Burkett. Yes. Bill Burkett, Bill Burkett, "Lockhart tried to convince me as to why I should give them the documents." On CNN Burkett today says, in a CNN story on the web, Burkett says "jury is still out" on the authenticity of the memos. Now, I don't know what you were doing, this is the first monolog, I'm just repeating this from the first hour, but the fact of the matter is Lockhart is going to deny this. He's gotta deny, you know, Burkett is out there, he's had four seizures, he's bankrupt, he's tapped out, phones are tapped, all sorts of stuff. Lockhart is going to have to deny this, or Burkett's lawyers are going to have to say Bill's gotten confused here, whatever, somebody is going to dump on Burkett. Whoever dumps on Burkett is just rendering Burkett an even more questionable source for CBS. (program observer interruption) Well, it's not a matter of choosing. I mean, Snerdley wants to know who do you choose Burkett or CBS or Lockhart?

We all think we know what happened here, don't we? We all think we know what happened, as Christopher Hitchens said and I got the audio coming up here. Christopher Hitchens said last night on Scarborough's show, "This is not even forgery, it's fakery." Forgery is when you try to pass off something good and try to fake something good, try to forge a hundred-dollar bill, but nobody goes out and forges a 99 dollar bill, and this is what's happened here. This is pure manufactured fakery. This is pure unadulterated criminal behavior. It's what Christopher Hitchens said last night, it's beyond the pale. He doesn't understand why there's not a nationwide media protest and outrage at this and an attempt to find out who did this for the sake of all of the media, but he's right, they're circling the wagons around themselves on this, folks, trying to hope this will go away. You've got Burkett out there saying, "Well, documents, yeah, the jury is still out on that, and Lockhart tried to convince me." So who do we believe, Lockhart or Burkett?

I mean, you know, one guy's job was to tell lies for a liar, that would be Lockhart, Clinton's press secretary. And Burkett, his story may be he doesn't know what he's saying now about anything. People are bringing into question his attachment, shall we say, to reality if I may be generous, and so it is a dilemma. But regardless, we know Mary Mapes called Lockhart. We know Burkett is now saying, yeah, Lockhart wanted me to give him the documents, Lockhart says I never talked about the documents. For Lockhart to say he never talked about the documents, I mean, that would have been one of the stupidest moves the Clintonistas ever made, to be talking to the source for a CBS story and have no interest in it.

There's just so much they're asking us to believe here, folks, and we're having to challenge our own intelligence with our own incredulity. We're incredulous at this, my, this is so outrageous. Folks, it's real simple, don't get bogged down on how complicated this is, it's real simple. It simply fits the pattern of the Democratic Party and the mainstream press and its alliance for years and years and years. This is just the latest emphatic illustration of it.
