OT: I switched to Freetrade one month ago. Have been happy with the service. Shortly after I initiated brokerage transfer my balance dropped below $5K (thanks Cheesy). I had the following e-mail correspondence with Freetrade:

"I recently opened a Freetrade account and submitted a brokerage transfer from my Scottrade account. Due to market conditions, my Scottrade balance has fallen below $5000. I hope that will not cause the transfer to be rejected. Please let me know if I need to wire additional funds to my Freetrade account."

"Dear Valued Freetrade Client:
Hi. Thank you for your concern. Your account shows a transfer in process. If the account value is below $5,000 the assets will be received but the account will not be activated until the value reaches $5,000. So you will need to wire in the balance. Thanks for asking."

Shortly after that I received another e-mail that stated my account was active and I was free to trade in it. I had not sent additional funds and my value was at about $4700. I've been trading with it for the past month with no problems.

-Hope that helps.

PS, I received this e-mail from them before I applied:
"
Dear Valued Freetrade Client:
After the initial wire to fund your account, there is no threshold to maintain other than the minimum maintenance requirement for positions purchased on margin.

If market depreciation causes the downturn, that is understood. If your account liquidation balance is withdrawn down below the $5000 level, we reserve the right to close your account or transfer it to Ameritrade who does not have the minimum balance.
Sincerely,

Client Services
Freetrade by Ameritrade
Division of Ameritrade, Inc.
