City Water, Light and Power’s Great Refrigerator Round Up program has been expanded to include the pickup and recycling of working room air conditioners.

Appliance Recycling Centers of America, CWLP’s recycling contractor, will pick up working room air conditioners at no cost to the customer when they also collect an eligible refrigerator or freezer. The unit must be removed by the customer. Two air conditioners are allowed per CWLP account.

CWLP’s Refrigerator Round Up program provides customers with a $50 rebate check for working refrigerators and freezers made before 1993. Typical appliances in this category use two to four times the energy of newer Energy Star models.

ARCA will pick up the refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, recycling 95 percent of each unit, including all of the ozone-depleting CFC refrigerants. No rebate is paid for recycling working air conditioners.
