{"s" : "mdtl.pk","k" : "c10,l10,p20,t10","o" : "","j" : ""} NEW YORK, June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Medis Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: MDTL - News), creator of the world's first consumer portable fuel cell, announced that recently completed tests prove its fuel cell technology is more than twice as powerful as the advanced battery technology currently considered the established technology performance leader by military organizations. As a means of demonstrating its value for important portable military applications such as tactical radios with heavy-duty use profiles, the Medis fuel cell technology was tested in a broad range of temperatures and environments, and more than doubled its end-point tests. The company expects to extend the advantages of this technology to consumer applications such as laptop computers, PDAs and other electronic devices.

Medis Technologies CEO Jose Mejia said the test results propel the Company to target burgeoning military, security and border-patrol applications including tactical radios, remote sensors, mini unmanned airborne vehicles (UAVs or "drones") and Future Soldier applications. The technology was tested with common military applications including tactical radios with heavy duty use profiles such as single side band (SSB) communication devices. Consumer markets and light industrial applications will also be addressed. And because our technology is not a battery but an electricity generator, it is an always-on, always-available source where batteries may age and deteriorate.

"These tests were ultra-rigorous, and the remarkable results demonstrate our technology beats the advanced batteries that are being used for portable power by the military today," Mejia said. "Our technology offers huge performance advantages over currently employed energy storage technologies, and it gives us what we need to sell to the military and Department of Defense and capture new contracts for portable power technology.

"Tactical radio use accounts for 95 percent of sales to the military market," added Mejia. "Along with performance improvements, our fuel cell technology represents budget-lowering cost savings for armed services being asked to control expenses. Most important, it is the most energy-dense product in the 3-to-4-day mission profile while also being very lightweight, which are critical standards in the military market."

Medis demonstrated total system performance of more than the critical threshold target of 400 wh/kg--more than double lithium-ion technology used by the military today.

The system was tested in a broad range of temperatures and environments germane to military applications, including testing at -20C and +50C. At -20C the technology had 90 percent of the performance of ambient conditions which is a significant achievement for portable power technologies. At +50C the performance was the same as ambient. Also tested were environments of up to 95 percent humidity and altitudes up to 15,000 feet without degradation of performance.
