NEWS: Octus Energy Announces Affiliations With University of CaliforniaSmart Energy Research Centers

Aug 20, 2009 09:35:26 (ET)

DAVIS, CA, Aug 20, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Octus Energy (OCTI, Trade ) today announced its affiliation with two University of California, Davis energy efficiency research centers, the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) and the Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC). As an affiliate member, Octus will collaborate with CLTC and WCEC to develop and deploy the Octus Smart Energy Platform (OctusSEP), focused on commercializing innovative and highly efficient lighting and cooling products and systems.

"Smart energy is a dynamic, vibrant, high-growth industry, and CLTC and WCEC are the premier centers of excellence propelling the energy efficiency industry," said Chris Soderquist, Octus CEO. "Their hands-on, creative, inclusive approach to moving cutting-edge technologies from the lab to the marketplace amplifies Octus' commercialization activities. With their assistance, we will expedite and optimize the development of OctusSEP, while forging relationships with utilities, regulators, manufacturers and key customers."

The OctusSEP is a comprehensive energy management system combining an IP communication platform, Web-based software and energy-efficient devices. OctusSEP targets 40-60% energy savings by networking specialized sensors, controls and high-performance retrofit fixtures to automate the management of lighting, HVAC and other electrical devices.

"This is what we do. We work with innovative companies to create, and commercialize next-generation lighting solutions," explained CLTC Director Michael Siminovitch. "Octus' comprehensive approach to energy efficiency -- including system design, project financing, automated controls and energy management -- is what the industry needs. We look forward to collaborating with Octus and welcome them to our affiliate program."

"Historically, energy efficiency has been invisible," said Soderquist. "Every year, U.S. businesses waste more than $50 billion in excess electricity costs. OctusSEP generates measurable and immediate results, making energy efficiency visible, tangible, and lucrative."
