I would never put the sysop on ignore! <bg>

But it's needed for extreme cases:

People who post 50 or even 100 times a day. (Noise)

And "post-bursters" with 10 to 15 posts in a row consisting only of good (or bad) news and comments. (Brainwash)

In SI I had only 4 or 5 people on ignore of the first kind, but that accounted for more than 60% of the noise.

I only had 2 brainwashers on ignore, but that let me assess the sentiment of the thread in a far more relaxed way.

(There's actually a third kind: the "serial stalker". SI's Mark Johnson falls into that category. Although I consider him to be way off-base I never put him on Ignore --until the very end, when he fell into the "noise" category-- as he doesn't affect my trading)

Keep on the good work,

Huluriasquias.

Hulu -- You make a strong case. We've discussed ignore here for a long time and I've always been very resistant. I've always viewed it as the equivalent of putting blinders on, and worry it'll be misused on some boards the way it is on RB ("Put the evil basher on ignore -- they're lying about this wonderful company!"). But, for example, a strong case can be made for putting my posts on ignore during the market day since I'll rarely have anything to say about the market.
