But clearly it's possible for a small player like AMD to gain significant marketshare and grow revenues and profits, even in a slowing or shrinking market. That's what Dell did throughout the post-bubble downturn. For AMD, I guess, Droids are arguing that its marketshare gains could more than offset the effects of the slowdown. I think that's logical. (It may not actually come to pass, but it's not crazy.)

I agree, that would be true if, the illusion were true that AMD is a small player. They're not. You must be thinking of Transmeta. And anyway, Jerry Sanders tried that "Volume is our vaccine to grow market share", theory out already, it didn't work. Besides, comparing AMD to Dell is irrelevant, Semiconductors are not computers, and Hector RuiN is no Michael Dell. I think the Droid theory is only logical if viwed through "I Love AMD" glasses, who's lens color I don't think I need to note. You'll see.

Why do you think Hector is spinning positively, if he expects to miss? It seems like a dumb thing to do. Why not just join the flood of warnings, and blame the economy?

Because he learned his AMD indoctrination at the feet of "Spit On Intel" Jerry Sanders, that's why. Even in the text I presented, Hector says Q3 is loaded monthly JULY August/September as 20%/20%/60%. He has already indicated that July and August was not up to expectations, and he's hoping for September to save his sorry ass predictions, while other Semiconductor companies apparently have CEO's with smaller Ego's

And it's not dunb for him to do, he's got nothing to lose. If what Hector is "hoping for" doesn't come to pass, he can always blame intel, since that seems to be a well established pattern pattern of AMD/Hector RuiN, corporate policy.
