TriQuint to supply PAs bundled with MediaTek TD-SCDMA chips in 2010

TriQuint Semiconductor will begin small-volume shipments of power amplifier (PA) products bundled with MediaTek's TD-SCDMA chips in 2010, according to market sources.

Seeing the growth potential of China's 3G market as well as the success of MediaTek's 3G chips, TriQuint has decided to partner with MediaTek for the TD-SCDMA segment. Trident's current CDMA 2000 and WCDMA products use Qualcomm's chips.

TriQuint has already sampled PA-MediaTek GSM chip combo products to several handset makers in China as well as independent design houses, with shipments slated for the end of 2009 at the earliest. The company aims to grab 5-8% of orders from Skyworks by the end of 2009, the sources noted.

Skyworks is MediaTek's major partner for GSM chips, and owns more than 90% share in the market, the sources added.

(DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE TD-SCDMA PRODUCTS BY TRIQUINT CONTAIN QCOM CHIPS? or is that wishful thinking! TIA)
