The collaboration may been going perfectly well, but perhaps the paper got rejected by Nature. Of course, this is pure speculation on my part. However, in contrast to what was posted several days ago, even the best scientists in the world get papers rejected by Nature, Science, Cell, etc and to state that Nature would love to have a scientist like Haynes publish in their journal is pure hogwash without information on the quality of the manuscript.

One thing that I just noticed is that a "perspective" for a future issue of Nature Medicine outlines broadly neutralizing HIV antibodies suggesting that the next issue may have several papers related to this topic. This gives me a glimmer of hope
