A large clustered cloud mass off the East Coast today will bear watching as it moves northward over the next 24 hours. This system, once feared for some development, is now probably out of the mix for developing into a tropical system. First and foremost, there is too much shear for easy development. Secondly, this system is split into two parts and while it is heading northward and eastward it will split the energy between them. Largely heavy rain will fall from this first system from Long Island into coastal areas up the New England coast. Rain amounts along the path of this storm will range from 1-2 inches with local amounts of 3 inches. This system will also become slower later tonight into Friday with heavy rain moving into Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
The rest of the tropical Atlantic remains relatively quiet. We are tracking tropical waves along 54 west south of 18 north, along 70 west south of 20 north and along 84 west south of 23 west. These tropical waves feature no organized surface features and no important upper-level support at this time. So, no organized development is expected out of these three tropical waves through at least Friday.
