OT: BD: You wouldn't have voted for Bush anyway, so I'm not sure what your reaction means in terms of the country's reaction to these speeches.

Traditionally, Republicanism is supposed to mean staying out of individual lives, but the positions on Gay marriage, abortion and stem cell research are imposing on individual freedoms. And, as you suggest, the fiscal irresponsibility isn't traditional Republicanism. I'm not sure that matters to the majority, though.

If people don't care that we're involved in a war in the wrong place, for the wrong reasons, and that we went in without UN support, are funding it primarily alone, and haven't set our sights on the right targets yet, they'll just vote for Bush whatever he says or does. Things that seem obvious to some of us aren't obvious to the rest of us. :)
