Yes, but the the way the MMs arrange themselves on the bid/ask is NOT their true intentions...they play on trader psychology. Unless you can view Level 3 you have no idea what the MMs are really doing...

So what you see is what they want you to see... and MMs do hold positions for profits so they are usually net short or net long and sometimes absorb large blocks to balance the books and make $$$
