The name of the game is convenience. Last spring I could have paid about $150 for a push mower, but I paid $1200 for a riding mower. More out of my pocket, it uses more gas, doesn't get all the little nooks and crannies. Why did I get it though? Convenience. I (or my wife) now mow the yard in about 1.5 hours as opposed to 4-5 hours with a push mower. Today's society is all about convenience. Yes, the car wash sponge costs a bit much, but it is more convenient.
