Sometimes companies are able to recover some of the receivables, but in most cases I have dealt with (including my own business) they end up getting written off.
As for what you have proposed, I highly doubt Jared is experienced enough to do something such as that and I also doubt he has the financial ability to pursue it. It would cost quite a bit to fight WOW in court, might not even be worth it.
