I think it will depend on the terms: I do not agree that they would take a poor partnership if a good M&A option is also available. On the other hand, they won't sell for pennies on the dollar if a good partnership, for whatever portion of the assets may be involved, is offered.If there is rough equivalence between the NPV of a partnership scenario and a M&A offer? Perhaps then the preference would be to go with the partnership, but I think that would be a topic of active debate within the BOD.

Contrary to the claims of some, they do understand the concept of fiduciary responsibility. And as noted before, Stoll is 67 (maybe 68 now?), most of the members of the BOD have been around for a long time as well; playing out the string indefinitely is not the priority.
