What options are available with EMPOWER ® YES!? EMPOWER ® YES! can be configured in a variety of ways to allow almost any combination of entertainment services to include movies and other video, music and audio programs, local and online games, messaging, Internet, email, and moving maps. The EMPOWER ® YES! system can even include power and Ethernet data connectivity for passenger’s personal electronic devices and passenger service system (PSS) functions for attendant call and reading lights. What happens during PA announcements? All passenger devices in operation are paused and the sound is muted to allow the passengers to hear announcements. Can passengers use their own wireless PED to connect to EMPOWER ® YES!? The primary IEEE-802.11a network for the EMPOWER ® YES! system is closed to all passenger wireless connections through filtering, encryption, and firewalls to ensure security of the media data. However, the EMPOWER ® YES! system is provided with IEEE802.11b/g wireless access points to allow passenger PED wireless connections on a separate wireless network. What options are available for connecting EMPOWER ® YES! to the aircraft? The EMPOWER ® YES! server provides a variety of connections to the aircraft and SATCOM systems. These include ARINC-429, Ethernet, ARINC-628 (Airbus and Boeing Passenger Services Systems), CEPT-E1 (Cabin Telephony Unit, Satellite Data Unit), and Discrete Inputs. What if I can’t afford a full EMPOWER ® YES! system right now? EMPOWER® YES! can be installed in stages starting with a basic EMPOWER® 110VAC in-seat power system, which can be provisioned for EMPOWER.NETTM or EMPOWER ® YES! later on. What led GDAES to get into in-seat entertainment? As GDAES was marketing EMPOWER.NETTM many customers wanted GDAES to integrate a DVD player or hard-disk player into our offering. GDAES would not have entered the market with a conventional IFE system. YES! is a revolutionary new architecture, with the power at the seat, with inherently higher system availability than traditional IFE. Does GDAES have any customers for YES!? YES! has been quietly marketed to just a few airlines and has been very well received. We expect to be able to announce two major airline orders by year-end. What aircraft is YES! targeted at? YES! is a decentralized system which can be scaled from anything from a regional jet to standard body, to super jumbo A380 type aircraft. In fact, GDAES is currently pursuing IFE system offerability on the A380.
