I also thought so when I first read the definition but then this caught my attention....

"Porphyry copper deposits are the largest source of copper, and are found in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Pacific islands."

It is also nice to know there is a porphyry in Utah called the Bingham Canyon mine. I've heard estimates that in today's dollars Bingham Canyom would have been worth $100 billion when it was first discovered.
