Insight: Cabin Suppliers & IFE Systems Briefs: Emirates, Indy Air Sign Deals With Matsushita

Emirates signed a deal with Matsushita Avionics Systems Corp. (MAS) for the "eX2" inflight entertainment system for its new Airbus fleet. The agreement also includes new systems for other new aircraft on order and for existing aircraft, making MAS the sole supplier of IFE systems to the Emirates fleet, which will jump to nearly 170 planes by 2012. The overall value of the order is about US$1 billion. Separately, Washington-based Independence Air signed a deal with MAS to provide the IFE system, including a satellite television service, on its new Airbus aircraft.
