You summed it up well
Just add, and the Republicans learned to sell themselves for votes, even if it means trashing our constitution in favor of what lame Roy Moore writes, or to write bigotry into it, and the whole "lets go pretend we are religious" to get the votes of the televangelists etal "flock" -- so what if you trash the other 60% of the country's faith in the process & look the other way while "seperation of church and state" is propagandized as a myth....
It's the only way Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 got in...
Catering to them...at the expense of whatever it took...
