I'm looking for memorable tiny acts of kindness...
performed by one or both of your parents on your behalf. Little gestures that have probably long forgotten but are etched in granite in your memory banks.

I'll start with a small offering on my part.

I was about 9 years old and just discovering the world of rock 'n roll. We were on one of our marathon road trip pilgrimages to the homeland... Illinois. It was pit stop time. I spotted a jukebox and went over to check out its offerings... found a song I was particularly fond of. At this point in time, I have no idea what is was.

To listen to it, would have cost a dime. Far out of my price range. My parents were not the types to shower us with monetary gifts. We had to earn our keep.

I took a deep breath and decided to go for it. I timidly approached my father and asked if I may please have a dime for the jukebox.

He smiled down at me, dug in his pocket, pulled out a QUARTER!, and handed it to me. THREE SONGS!

Thank you, Dad. Thank you.

When he leaves the planet, I believe that is the first thought that will cross my mind and I will know I was loved.
