Re: INTC price cuts

Here's a helpful summary:

Re: Interesting that Itanium prices continue to fall.

I also find the Itanium price cuts interesting, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've ever been cut.

Intel® Itanium® 2 Processor July '04 (07/18) Aug '04 (08/22) % Decrease
Server/Workstation (PAC-611) Price Price

1.50 GHz w/ 6M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $4,227 $4,227 -
1.40 GHz w/ 4M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $2,247 $1,980 11.88%
1.30 GHz w/ 3M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $1,338 $910 31.99%
1.60 GHz w/ 3M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $2,408 $2,408 -
1.40 GHz w/ 3M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $1,172 $851 27.39%
1.40 GHz w/ 1.5M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $1,172 $851 27.39%
1 GHz w/ 1.5M cache 400 MHz FSB (.13) $744 $530 28.76%

Looks like some serious reductions are in here. Question is, does this mean that the Itanium ramp has been suffering, or is Intel doing this strategically to increase the rate of the ramp? If Madison 9M uses the same pricing structure, there could be some very competitive skus. Consider an LV 1.3GHz/3M/62W chip for $530.
