The drug may be getting prescribed because it works, not in the sense that we'd hope (i.e. restoring or enhancing cognitive function), but rather the opposite: rendering the patient zonked and compliant. AD is horrible, but until a person is far along, there always is a residue of the person who once was. It is a shame to snuff that out for the sake of expedience.
