That is NOT 100% correct Ryan.

Not every camera phone can take a good picture of a 1D/2D barcode. Try using your generic camera phone to take a picture of a smaller 2D barcode. Your Reader (whatever it might be) will NOT be able to read the barcode because it's just too small. Basically, this new iPhone 3Gs will allow small pictures because of the macro closeups. Also, it is 3 MP so that will help on the resolution. There are actually some smartphones that have higher than 3 MP for their camera...I think those phones should definitely take advantage of this.
