Airlines to lose billions
Losses at global airlines are expected to reach $9 billion in 2009, the International Air Transport Association said today.
That is nearly double what was estimated three months ago, said IATA director Giovanni Bisignagni in a speech in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The swine flu crisis, along with the recession, has hurt ticket sales, Bisignangni said. And many airlines are delaying orders for planes that were made a year ago, he added.
