Awareness creating for Macular Desease important

The painter worked with the Macular Disease Society in the UK to find subjects for his portraits. It was through that connection that Adam found Don Curran, AMD Alliance International’s Immediate Past Chair, who agreed to sit for the artist.

“One of the biggest difficulties we have is explaining the disease’s impact to other people,” says Curran. “I spend a lot of time trying to show how difficult it is living with central–vision blindness, and how the condition varies between each individual. When I was able to see Adam’s finished portrait of me out of the corner of my eye, I was so impressed with what he had painted and how accurately he captured my vision loss. And thanks to his exhibits and great media exposure, his portraits are doing a great thing for creating much-needed awareness of this very difficult and all-too common problem.”

Adam painted 17 portraits in all which were presented at shows throughout the United Kingdom, receiving numerous accolades as well as impressive media coverage including a story on BBC television and in the London Times. One of Adam’s portraits also recently served as the cover for the March/April issue of the Canadian Journal of Optometry.
