SNYDERSVILLE — The local developer of a cutting-edge energy-saving device has contracted with a New York corporation to exclusively market the device to households nationwide.

DMI Manufacturing made the announcement Friday at Burnley Workshop, the jobs agency for the disabled that has manufactured the product for nearly two years. The Energy Bank Unit, or EBU, cuts electrical consumption by as much as 30 percent by eliminating sudden surges as appliances are turned on or off, or are in prolonged use.

GoIP Global, Inc., a publiclytraded company, has initially ordered 1,000 units per month for retail sale. It has an option to eventually order 5,000 pieces monthly.

"It's kind of unique, it's special and it's made right here in America," GoIP CEO Ike Sutton said at the announcement. "It's green, it's energy and it's going to save a lot of money throughout the U.S."

Guy Lestician, who invented the small 7-pound rectangular device and is DMI's chief financial officer, says Burnley workers provide superior workmanship at a cost that puts the device within reach of energy-conscious consumers.

"This is a unit I hope will probably end up in everybody's house eventually," Lestician said.

The marketing agreement with GoIP guarantees that DMI will be in business for the next five years, he added.

The household unit, which is attached to the electrical panel in the home, retails for about $350.

"The return on this device is less than a year for most consumers," Sutton said. "We're going to be marketing to people who will be able to realize substantial savings."

Officials said unit cost-savings has been confirmed by several university "white papers" on the device.

Also on hand for the announcement was investor Herbert Ortiz and state Rep. John Siptroth, D-189, who helped Lestician launch the manufacturing process.

Gerald Ephault of Ben Franklin Technology Partners, the technology development arm of state government, also was there.

The agreement with GoIP is only for the household units. DMI will continue to retail commercial and industrial versions of the energy bank.
