All good valid points, on the surface. However, direct always gets pointed to the same URL no matter what. As a marketer (which I am) I will want the flexibility to vary the URL that a 2D code will point to. Manufacturers won't (in my opinion) print a direct code on millions of labels that can't be redirected based on geographic regions or other reasons that they may want to control. The direct is very rigid while indirect is not. Indirect will be the marketers/advertisers choice. Direct will be used but in different applications.
