John Kanas leads bid to acquire BankUnited, Bloomberg reports 05/12 05:36 AM



The former CEO of North Fork Bancorp, John Kanas, an adviser to Wilbur Ross, is leading a bid by WL Ross & Co, Blackstone Group (BX:$12.64,00$-1.20,00-8.67%) and Carlyle Group to acquire BankUnited (BKUNA). Under the plan, Kanas would run Florida's largest lender. Sources say Goldman Sachs (GS:$135.78,00$-3.81,00-2.73%) and Toronto-Dominion Ban (TD) are considering a competing officer, while J.C.
