Grimes, If my desktop system CPU has power management facilities, would I notice it is balky when it is presented with a workload that requires additional cpu power?

Theory aside, if you look at the benchmarks of a Dothan based laptop in adaptive mode, you'll see scores very similar to when it's in full power. Of course, I'm inclined to believe that Dothan's power management exceeds the specifications of the Prescott and derived parts, but I haven't seen any data to affirm that.

As for your other questions, I noticed NaS already answered them quite accurately.
